Description of Program:
The mission of the ANASAZI teen wilderness program is to prepare parents and children to turn their hearts to one another and walk in harmony in the wilderness of the world.
The founders of ANASAZI believe the youth who come to "walk the trail" are not objects to be fixed or changed. They are, however, young people with hopes, dreams, struggles and needs who have made at-risk choices. ANASAZI wilderness program offers them an opportunity to turn and walk forward again. ANASAZI is non-punitive and staff respect the agency of each Young Walker.
ANASAZI is not a behavioral modification program, "boot camp" or a lock down program for adolescents. There are no point or level systems or withholding of food or privileges, nor do the children have to "earn privileges." ANASAZI is designed to invite parents and children to experience a "change of heart."
Treatment at ANASAZI addresses the issues of disturbances of mood and behavior, substance abuse and personality and family functioning. The focus is on making correct choices, resolving conflicts and strengthening family relationships. Treatment is conducted individually and in group settings. No confrontive therapy, manipulation or behavioral modification techniques are employed.
The wilderness is not a harsh place to break youth down, but rather a safe place, free from distractions to learn, ponder one's life, discover God and family, build relationships of trust and prepare to begin anew. The trail is difficult, yet, caring staff encourage, teach and do all they can to help each young person progress.
ANASAZI accepts young people 12-17 years of age who are physically and emotionally able to handle the rigors of the trail and whose parents are willing to participate in their child's walking.
Those best served by ANASAZI are usually experiencing one or more of the following:
-Conflict with Family
-Depression
-Suicide Ideation
-Substance Abuse
-Oppositional Behavior
-School Failure
-Eating Disorders
-ADD & ADHD |
